WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Two West Liberty University music students recently earned top honors at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Eastern Regional Student Auditions, a prestigious solo vocal competition that draws talented student singers from universities across the eastern United States.

Chase Burdick, a junior Music Education major from Wheeling, West Virginia, earned first place in the Contemporary Commercial Music category, while Mason Stoll, a junior Music Education major from Steubenville, Ohio, placed second in the Musical Theatre category.

Both students will now advance to the NATS National Student Auditions, which will take place during the NATS National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, July 3–7. The first round of national auditions will be adjudicated online, with semifinalists invited to compete in person at the convention.

Burdick, a baritone, performed the Elvis Presley classic “If I Can Dream,” while Stoll, a tenor, performed “Heaven’s Light” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

“These two students are exceptional, and I am very proud that they were recognized for their hard work and talents,” said Dr. Linda Cowan, Professor of Voice at West Liberty University.

The regional competition included student vocalists from institutions across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia, including several major music programs.

Their success highlights the strength of West Liberty University’s music program and the dedication of its students and faculty.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) is the largest professional organization of teachers of singing in the world and hosts annual student auditions at regional and national levels to recognize outstanding vocal talent.

West Liberty University blends a small-town environment with a comprehensive college experience, fostering students’ aspirations through hands-on learning, personalized support, and unique academic programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
