Nancy Smith Harris Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming English major who ranked in the upper one third of his or her high school class. The yearly $1500 award will be renewable for three years as long as the recipient remains an English major, makes satisfactory progress towards graduation, and maintains a 3.25 overall GPA and a 3.5 GPA in all English courses. The scholarship will be offered again after the recipient’s four years have expired or earlier if a vacancy should occur.

Raymond G. Hughes Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor Dr. Raymond G. Hughes, Professor of English from 1931 to 1970. This $3200 award ($1600/semester) is offered to one or more students majoring in English during their second, third, or fourth academic year (s).  Recipients must meet and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 and be declared an English major. Interested students should apply for the scholarship during the second semester of their first academic year by sending a letter of application outlining their academic performance and contributions to the English department. The scholarship will be renewed for up to six semesters as long as the recipient continues to meet the eligibility guidelines.
