Richard Adams is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Bankshares, Inc. A Parkersburg native, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University.
Adams is a member of the University System of W. Va. Board of Trustees; Board of Directors of the W.Va. Bankers Association; W.Va. Business Roundtable; and W.Va. Kids Count. He is a former president of the W.Va. Bankers Association, Parkersburg Area Development Corporation, Parkersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and former chairman of the board of Eastern States Bankcard Association in New York.
Adams has served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank, Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, American Bankers Association Governing Council, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Regional Advisory Council, the International Financial Conference, and the Young Presidents Organization of America.
Adams has been honored by the Parkersburg Area Jaycees as “Boss of the Year” and by the YMCA as “Citizen of the Year.” He has published articles in various national baking journals, and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
