Honolulu, HIMy interest in medicine began after I left my home in Hawaii, and spent two years as a service missionary in Fortaleza, Brazil. Living there among the impoverished locals, seeing and experiencing poor healthcare and medical practices gave me great gratitude for the level of care that exists in the United States and inspired me to become part of that. After returning home from Brazil, I began my undergraduate studies in Exercise Physiology and explored the career of a physician assistant. I sought out opportunities to shadow local physician assistants and witnessed their relationships with their patients in a variety of fields and developed a desire to pursue a career as a PA.
Cultivating meaningful relationships, the ability to practice medicine in a variety of fields, and being challenged in an environment that requires me to think critically for each individual case is what drove me to be a PA. I chose West Liberty University because the professors show such vigor for their careers as physicians and teachers. I also prefer a small class size and the homegrown feel of the local area is ideal for raising a family. When I’m not studying, you can find me at the gym or with my two sons.
