WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., February 20, 2025 – West Liberty University’s (WLU) Employee Engagement Committee (EEC) is proud to announce the recipients of its Staff Recognition Awards for the 2024 calendar year.
Staff members comprise about 50% of the workforce at WLU. These annual awards reaffirm the University’s commitment to celebrating excellence within our staff community.
True Topper Award – Tom Hepburn, Maintenance Department
The prestigious True Topper Award is the highest award any staff member can receive and recognizes individuals who consistently go above and beyond in their roles, with exceptional dedication and contributions to the University. The True Topper recipient also receives a monetary award of $250.
Customer Service Award – Lou Karas, Director, Center for Arts and Education
Often the first interaction the public has with staff, customer service is crucial in any institution. This award recognizes outstanding customer service and an individual who helpful, responsive, and a joy to interact with.
Team Award – Registrar’s Office: Stephanie North, Laura Willis, and Karen Gerardi
Teamwork is a cornerstone of success. The Team Award honors groups within the University that have demonstrated exceptional collaboration and achievements, and whose pride and impact are felt across campus.
“It was a pleasure to present these awards in front of the entire campus community and showcase the resources we have here,” remarks EEC chair Eric Burkle. “I look forward to working with administration to see that staff are recognized and applauded for their efforts,” he adds.
The EEC is looking forward to receiving nominations for their 2025 awards. Staff members are encouraged to nominate co-workers for yearly awards and employee of the month awards.
