WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 5, 2016 — Senior art majors and their capstone work is now on display at the Nutting Gallery, offering a variety of creative expression for visitors to enjoy.

“Our Fall Senior Exhibition is always a special time for students, faculty and guests of the gallery. We are proud of our students and their hard work and this exhibition is an important way to add confidence and professionalism to their education,” said Professor Bob Villamagna, director of the Nutting Gallery.

The opening reception took place on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and drew dozens of guests, along with friends and family of the seven seniors featured. The exhibition will come down on Friday, Dec. 9, just before Fall Commencement.

Seniors include: Aleece Abell, Rosalie Haizlett, Michael Hall, Allison Lichwa, Madalyn Kimble, Hannah Wilson and Avi Wu.

Haizlett is a graphic design major from Bethany, W.Va. and for her senior show, she created an illustrated guide to studying abroad, a topic she knows well since she studied in France, South Korea and other locations while studying at WLU.

Next year, Haizlett will display her work in several exhibitions through her fellowship with the Tamarack Foundation for the Arts. Haizlett also is planning to do freelance work in the Morgantown area.

Hall is a native of Marietta, Ohio. Upon his graduation, he will start working as a graphic designer at a magazine company in his hometown and he looks forward to transitioning into the professional field. His work included a group of wood cuts, created and printed to show his skills.

Allison Lichwa
Allison Lichwa is enthusiastic about her future and her love of advertising, fashion and art.

Wu also was inspired by traveling, like Haizlett and offered her version of a travel guide as her creative topic.

“Travel has always been my passion, so I created a relationship between design and travel together. I made a travel guide for young explorers who are thirsty to learn and see the world. It was fun working on this piece, and it shows my character,” Wu said, who is from Vietnam and studied at WLU as an international student. Her family now resides in California.

“This year has been an awesome. I am very passionate about this project and feel proud and happy with my work being on display at the Nutting Gallery,” Wu added.

Lichwa is from Wheeling and is an enthusiastic graphic design major with a minor in advertising and communications. After graduation, she plans on finding a job with a fashion magazine publisher.

Kimble is from Rayland, Ohio, and is an art education major.

“I plan on moving to Columbus to seek a job and teach for a few years, then I’m going to get my master’s degree,” Kimble explained. Her work shows a huge tree sculpture that is a dramatic example of her family tree.

The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is open from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., on weekdays through Dec. 8, evenings and weekends by arrangement.
