WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., June 3, 2016 — Summer is the perfect time to welcome incoming students to campus. Orientation and Registration sessions take place throughout the summer in a relaxed way designed to be both informative and pleasant for incoming students, their parents or guardians.

“We look forward to our summer orientation events and the chance it offers to meet our new students and their families. We offer all the information we can to make their transition to college life easier and more successful. Plus, the students have a chance to ask any individual questions they may have,” said Marcella Snyder, executive director of Housing & Student Life. “It’s also a great way to meet the other students.”

Planned by college major, the daylong programs include everything from meeting the WLU President, Dr. Stephen Greiner, to campus tours and lunch. But the most important part of the day is the presentation that gives an overview of life as a Hilltopper.

Summer 2016 sessions, by college, include:

  • College of Arts & Communication, June 7
  • Gary E. West College of Business, June 14
  • College of Education, June 23
  • College of Liberal Arts, June 28
  • College of Sciences, July 12
  • College of Sciences, July 14
  • Undeclared Students, July 19
  • Open Day for any student, July 26
  • Open Day for any student, Aug. 2

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a formal welcome from President Greiner and a college dean, held in Kelly Theater. Then students go one way and parents the other, to attend a variety of programs offered on topics like financial aid, move-in day, graduation and housing.

This is followed by lunch in the University’s cafeteria, known as the Marketplace. After lunch, there is a Student Life Fair that explains activities and clubs active on campus and an opportunity for touring residence halls, financial aid counseling, and placement testing in math and English if necessary. The day concludes at 3 p.m.

“We realize just how important the upcoming move to college life is for the students and the families and we are here to assist as they join the West Liberty University community,” Snyder said.

Classes begin on Aug. 20 at WLU’s Highlands Center campus and on Aug. 22 at the main campus.
