WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 15, 2022 — West Liberty University graduates enjoyed a new opportunity for networking and career building just prior to commencement this fall.
“We had a first time ever job fair for teachers and we were pleased to have full participation from our December graduates. They handed out resumes, networked, and it overall was a great experience,” said Dr. Sarah Schimmel, chair of WLU’s Department of Education and an associate professor of Special Education.

WLU’s College of Education and Human Performance partnered with the Learning and Student Development Center to welcome local school districts and county school systems to West Liberty University’s campus. The in-person event was held in the Boyle Conference Center.
Representatives from the following participated and recruited future educators:
- Brooke County Schools
- Edison Local School District
- Hancock County Schools
- Indian Creek Local School District
- Marshall County Schools
- Ohio County Schools
- Steubenville City School District
- Switzerland of Ohio Local School District
- Union Local Schools
- Wetzel County Schools
- WLU Graduate Studies
“This was a perfect way for students to engage with local school districts and prospective employers,” said Chris McPherson, director of the Learning and Student Development Center.
The event provided students from any major, academic program or class level an opportunity to discover current opportunities while engaging in valuable professional development gained by discussing resumes, experience and career questions.
Fall Commencement was held last Saturday, Dec. 10 and included 22 undergraduates and 14 master degree students earning degrees from the College of Education and Human Performance.
