Dr. Douglas C. McCall is currently Director of Choral Activities at West Liberty University. He spent 20+ years as a public school choral teacher in Central New York before his appointment to West Liberty.
Dr. . McCall has degrees in Music Education from the Crane School of Music (NY) and Ithaca College (NY) and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Penn State.
Dr. McCall has spent his entire career dedicated to the choral art. He has conducted choirs of singers from ages 10-90. He has worked with middle school choirs, high school choirs, college choirs, community choirs, and church choirs. Regardless of the age level, he is committed to creating a fulfilling and enjoyable choir experience that encourages singers to continue their choral journey throughout their lives.
In addition, Dr. McCall is committed to celebrating the voices of composers from traditionally marginalized populations. He seeks to diversify every concert program to highlight these composers and the wonderful music they add to the every-growing body of choral music.
Dr. McCall is committed to helping choral music educators strengthen their teacher identity. Dr. McCall has presented at a variety of conferences across the country. Additionally, Dr. McCall is the co-author of Field Guide to Student Teaching in Music, 2nd Edition (Routledge). Dr. McCall also maintains an active research agenda which focuses on music teacher identity as well as pre-service teacher development and new teacher induction. Dr. McCall also has presented at conferences across the United States as well as being accepted to present internationally.
Dr. McCall conducts the West Liberty University Singers (campus choir), Choral Scholars (auditioned choir), and the Hilltop Harmonic Collective (vocal/instrumental jazz combo). He also teaches Conducting, Music in the Middle School, Music in the Secondary School, and Choral Methods.
