West Liberty University 48 Hour Film Festival

West Liberty University 48 Hour Film Festival

October 20th – 22nd

The WLU 48 Hour Film Festival is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents through film. Participants will randomly draw a genre, line of dialogue, a character profile, and a prop at the orientation meeting, and then spend the next 48 hours completing their film from script to screen. Submissions will be received at the end of that 48 hour period and then screened and judged live at Waterfront Hall in downtown Wheeling. This is a competition with cash prizes! The screenings, held at 7 pm on October 22nd, are free and open to the public!

Registration Drawing Date:

Friday, October 20th, 2023, 4:30-5:00 PM. Media Arts Lobby.

4:30 PM Students will register in the lobby of the Media Arts Center. All registrations must be completed no later than 5:10 PM to be eligible to participate.
No more than 3 participants can be allowed on a team; however, you may utilize as many participants for your film as needed.  All teams are responsible for providing their own production and editing equipment.

5:00 PM Participants will draw a genre, prop, character, and line of dialogue for their entry. The required elements must appear in the story of your film. Use of the elements in the credits only will NOT fulfill the requirement.

Genres: Your film must be true to the genre you have selected—and no trading with other teams! An award will be given for best adherence to the genre.

Props: These elements must be integrated into the film and be able to be seen. There will be an award for most creative use of each prop.

Characters: The required character does not have to be the star, but we must actually see him/her on the screen. Name tags, etc. are not necessary so long as the audience can infer who he/she is. An award will be given for the best use of character profile.

Required lines:  The required line of dialogue must be heard or seen – it may be written. It may be in a foreign language; however if it is not clear that this is the required line, it should be translated. An award will be given for the most creatively used required line.

Film Length: Films must be between 6 and 10 minutes in length.

Submission Screening:

October 22, 2023, 7:00 PM, Waterfront Hall

Admission cost: $5 donation requested. No set admission.

All videos will be screened, and then awards will be given. Team members will have an opportunity to introduce their piece before it is played.
