CELEBRATING the BICENTENNTIAL of the FIRST PUBLICATION OF MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENSTEIN (1818)

We will be hosting a FILM FESTIVAL on October 28, 29, and 30 at the Elbin Auditorium in College Hall. Each night will begin at 6pm and will feature a screening of a film adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein. Prior to showing each film, WLU Professor Chris Lee will give a presentation on the historical and cultural contexts for the film. The specific schedule is as follows:

LOCATION & TIME: Elbin Auditorium in College Hall at 6pm

• October 28   |   The original film adaptation of Frankenstein (1931), starring Boris Karloff.
• October 29   |   Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein (1974), starring Gene Wilder.
• October 30   |   Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994), starring Kenneth Branagh.
• October 1-31,  Elbin Library  |   SPECIAL EXHIBIT of comic book/graphic novel adaptations of Frankenstein.
• October 2 – 4pm  |   WLU Professor Wally Hastings, curator of the exhibit, will give a presentation at its opening reception in Elbin Library.

We will host DISCUSSIONS of Frankenstein at several area libraries:

• October 25 – 5pm   |   Book Discussion at the Brooke County Public Library.
• October 30 – 12pm  |  Book Discussion at the Ohio County Public Library after Lunch with Books program.
