Model United Nations is relatively new at West Liberty University, with students from West Liberty traveling to their first Model UN conference in Charlotte, NC Spring 2019 and then to their next conference in Montreal, Canada Fall 2019. In Model UN students take on the role of a UN diplomat, arguing for the interests of the country they are representing, and trying to get resolutions passed that benefit their country. By participating in Model UN students learn to work together with people who have diverse interests, consensus building, debate, and concise writing. Model UN has become a regular part of the West Liberty Political Science curriculum and is offered as a course once a year. Once students have taken the Model UN course they are able to participate in future Model UN conferences.
