The decision to delay or cancel classes is reached by the President and the Provost of the University in conference. The decision to close the University is reached by the President of the institution in conference with the Chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
If classes are to be delayed, local radio and television stations will be contacted by the Provost, Dean of Students, or their designees. Additionally, the announcement will be available through use of the Campus Weather Hotline, WLU electronic mail, and text messaging. The announcement will specify the length of the delay, and the class day will commence with the next scheduled class following expiration of the delay. The announcement will specify that all administrative and support staff must report and that University offices are not closed. Classes missed due to class delay will be made up at the option and discretion of the instructors.
If classes are to be canceled for an entire day, local radio and television stations will be contacted by the Provost, Dean of Students, or their designees. Additionally, the announcement will be available through use of the Campus Weather Hotline, WLU electronic mail, and text messaging. Classes missed due to cancellation will be made up at the option and discretion of the instructors up to the point that the University administration may deem that an academic term must be adjusted to recover class days lost to cancellation.
All university administrative heads, faculty, and staff are responsible for checking for inclement weather class delays or class cancellations.
If it is necessary to close the University, local radio and television stations will be notified by the President or his/her designee.
