2024 SCIENCE FAIR – HELD FEBRUARY 10TH AT THE WLU HIGHLANDS CENTER
What is the science fair?
The Annual West Liberty Regional Science & Engineering Fair is a competition among grade 3–12 school students, to demonstrate quality scientific investigation through exhibits. Its purpose is to encourage young people to develop an active interest in science and engineering, and to recognize quality scientific investigation in elementary, middle, and high schools.
Who is Eligible?
Any student or group of students from the International Science and Engineering Fair approved counties (Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, and Wetzel in West Virginia).
What are the Requirements?
Registration for the fair. Additionally, all projects must be accompanied by the appropriate forms. All projects require the following forms: Checklist for Adult Sponsor/Safety Assessment form, Research Plan (1A), and Approval form (1B). The forms can be found here, which will enable each participant to determine other forms pertinent to the project. West Liberty University has both an SRC and IRB human subjects committee for projects requiring approval before experimentation can begin.

Information for Every Student & Teacher
Scientific Review Committee (SRC)
It is absolutely imperative that all projects involving Human Subjects, Vertebrate Animals, Animal Tissues, Recombinant DNA, Pathogenic Organisms, or Controlled Substances MUST obtain project approval by the SRC prior to starting the project. Failure to obtain prior approval may result in disqualification from WLURSEF.
All such projects, no matter how innocuous they may appear, must be submitted to the SRC committee, prior to starting the project, or they may not be qualified for WLURSEF competition. Students must use the ISEF forms (https://societyforscience.org/isef/document). For those who are unsure if they need project approval by the SRC, call or e-mail the fair director via the above-listed contact information.
Unacceptable for Display
The following link gives the Intel Display and Safety Regulations along with items that are not allowed at the project or booth.
Intel ISEF Display and Safety Regulations
Every year we have students bring materials that must be removed by the Display and Safety Committee, often causing tears and/or anger. Please review the list, and wherever possible, use drawings, graphics, and photographs on the display board. Also remember that we have several thousand students, teachers, parents, and general public that come through the displays. If you decide to leave anything of value at the display, it is at your own risk. We try, but it is difficult to police all the exhibits.
