Research:
Dr. Serra’s research interests are both experimental and theoretical. Currently, students in the experimental research group are investigating green, pseudo self-sustaining precious metal reclamation that include copper, silver, gold, platinum and palladium
from “junk” electronics. Theoretical research involves both application and theory development. Students in the applied theoretical group are using molecular modeling techniques to determine structure-activity relationships between small, drug-like molecules and proteins. Students in the theory development group are currently creating GPU methodologies to solve complex chemical and physical problems locally on our GPU cluster rather than a CPU supercomputer.
Interests and Hobbies:
Dr. Serra is a self-professed geek who enjoys tinkering with computers, iPads and iPhones; and, usually has bits and pieces of each strewn about the house, much to the dismay of his wife. He is also an avid Penguins fan, and hockey card collector, who loves to play with his Jack Russell and go jeeping (yes jeep is a verb!) when he has the chance.
