WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 29, 2024 – Mickey Marotti will address West Liberty University students as the keynote speaker at the Spring Commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 in the Academic, Sports, and Recreation Complex (ASRC).
Marotti, a distinguished alum of West Liberty University, graduated in 1987 with a degree in exercise physiology from the College of Education and Human Performance. During his years at WLU, he was a four-year letter winner as a fullback for the university’s football team and served as a team tri-captain in 1986. Marotti’s exceptional academic and athletic achievements earned him first-team NAIA All-Academic honors in 1987.
Currently, Marotti serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Football Sports Performance at Ohio State University, bringing 36 seasons of coaching experience with him. He is widely recognized for his expertise in strength and conditioning training– Marotti was the head sports performance coach for three national championship-winning teams: the 2006 and 2008 Florida Gators and the 2014 Ohio State Buckeyes.
Described as a “master of motivation and mental preparation,” Marotti’s leadership has earned him recognition, including the American Football Monthly’s FBS Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year award in 2016.
The commencement ceremony will be live-streamed on Topper Station for those unable to attend in person. Doors to the ASRC will open at 9:30 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
