West Liberty University officials have announced an increase in enrollment for the 2010 fall semester. Registrar and Executive Director of Enrollment Services Scott Cook reports 2,590 students were enrolled at WLU on the first day of classes.  This marks the fifth consecutive year of enrollment increase and a 4.5 percent increase from 2009.

“Our continuing upturn in enrollment not only signifies our commitment to providing a high-quality education, but is also indicative of West Liberty’s commitment to that education being both affordable and accessible,” said West Liberty University President Robin C. Capehart.  “Our faculty and staff are deserving of great praise for their hard work as we continue on our mission of transforming a good college to a great university.”

In addition, our transfer student rate is at an all-time high for 2010. Nearly 330 students made the conversion to WLU for the beginning of the semester.   “Our staff and faculty work hard to provide a safe and caring environment for our students.  This has led to a record number of transfer students enrolling. Transfer students are taking advantage of increased financial assistance and our articulation agreements with local community colleges,” added Cook.

Recent recruitment efforts and capital improvements have also helped bolster enrollment numbers.  The WLU Highlands Center has been open for over a year and now offers the Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Administration (BLA) Program, an accelerated degree completion program for adult learners. Additionally, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has approved funding for a $15 million dollar facility for the College of Sciences on the Main Campus.
