WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty University’s Paul N. Elbin Library is pleased to announce a partnership with Better World Books, an online bookseller of new and used books. The collaboration came as a result of the library’s collection evaluation process, during which staff identified books with outdated content, low circulation, and other criteria established by the American Library Association.
As of December 2025, the library has prepared 70 boxes totaling approximately 1,500 titles to be sent to Better World Books. Once received, the books will be evaluated and either resold or recycled, ensuring they reach readers or recycling centers rather than landfills.
“I am so happy to have been able to collaborate with Better World Books during our collection evaluation process,” said Anna Cipoletti, Electronic Resource Librarian. “We are proud to partner with a company that is committed to supporting literacy, sustainability, and the preservation of texts through digitization.”
“This partnership with Better World Books is an exciting opportunity for West Liberty University and one that was brought forward by our new librarian, Anna,” said Andrew Lewis, Executive Director Academic Engagement & Learning Services. “It allows us to thoughtfully repurpose books that have provided meaningful learning experiences for our students. Rather than discarding materials, we are extending their life and impact in a way that aligns with our values of sustainability, stewardship, and access to knowledge.”
Anyone with questions about this process is encouraged to contact Andrew Lewis or Anna Cipoletti.
