West Liberty University Theatre Invites Audiences Back to a Hauntingly Heartfelt Production of A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty University Theatre proudly presents the second weekend of its holiday production, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, running December 11–13 at 7:30 p.m. and concluding with a 3:00 p.m. matinee on December 14 in Kelly Theatre.

The production faced an unexpected challenge during its first weekend when Michael Aulick, who plays Ebenezer Scrooge, became ill and was unable to perform. Stepping in with remarkable skill and poise, cast member Willow Peyton assumed the role and delivered an exceptional performance. Aulick has fully recovered and will rejoin the cast for the upcoming weekend of shows.

This spirited adaptation of the Dickens classic, written by Israel Horovitz, invites audiences to reflect on generosity, community, and the moral responsibility we share with one another. Though set in Victorian England, the story’s examination of wealth, poverty, and compassion feels especially relevant today.

“We still live in a world where enormous prosperity exists side by side with profound need,” said Aulick, professor of theatre. “Scrooge’s journey is not merely about becoming nicer; it’s about recognizing that our choices ripple outward, affecting lives we may never fully see.”

The production showcases the collaborative artistry of WLU Theatre’s actors, designers, technicians, and creative team. Under the leadership of newly hired design faculty and Technical Director Christopher Rees, the program has expanded its artistic reach to include professional costume designer Leif Green and the many talents of its design students, who contribute as scenic painters, hair and makeup designers, and sound and lighting designers.

Assistant Director Alexandra Burdick notes, “The magic you see on stage exists because of the tireless, joyful labor of the artists whose names fill this program.” That magic is further elevated by the work of choreographer Jill Warren and musical director Cassandra Majetich, whose contributions deepen the production’s emotional resonance and festive spirit.

In the spirit of the season, West Liberty University Theatre invites patrons to participate in a holiday food drive. Audience members are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to any performance; donations will support local families in need throughout the winter. Guests who bring donations will receive extra fan favorite votes during the show.

Tickets are available at wlucarol.brownpapertickets.com, through the WLU Theatre Box Office, and at the door prior to each performance. Early arrival is recommended.

Join West Liberty University Theatre for an evening of holiday reflection, storytelling, and community—and help spread generosity beyond the stage.
