WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty University has announced that students can now complete its Cybersecurity major 100% online. With this major, students develop the ability to identify vulnerabilities, respond to cyber incidents, and implement security solutions that protect organizational assets.
According to Dr. Gayle Jesse, Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems, the program is designed to prepare students for today’s evolving cybersecurity landscape.
“The cybersecurity degree at WLU is an information assurance program that blends business and security skills relevant in the data-dependent marketplace. Classes involve theory and simulated learning environments. The degree prepares students to take the four foundational internationally recognized CompTIA exams. Our students have found careers in all sectors including government, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations.”
Offered in a 100% online format, the Cybersecurity major gives students the flexibility to complete coursework while balancing work, family, and other commitments. The program features an industry-aligned curriculum, experienced faculty, applied learning opportunities, and career-focused preparation designed to help students build practical skills for today’s cybersecurity workforce.
Graduates are prepared to make an immediate impact in the workforce, whether working remotely or on-site, by helping organizations maintain trust, ensure compliance, and operate securely in a constantly evolving threat landscape.
Cybersecurity is offered through the Gary E. West College of Business and accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).
Dr. Ann Saurbier, Dean of the Gary E. West College of Business, said offering the program fully online expands access to students seeking careers in one of the nation’s fastest-growing fields.
“The demand for information assurance and cybersecurity professionals continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, and the launch of our fully online Cybersecurity program ensures that students can access the skills and credentials needed to succeed in this dynamic field from anywhere. This program joins the Integrated General Business program as the second fully online program in the West Liberty University College of Business portfolio. This expansion enables the ability to deliver high-quality business education beyond our hilltop location and extend not only the reach but more importantly the impact of these in-demand programs to college learners wherever they are.”
The cybersecurity major adds to a growing list of WLU undergraduate majors available 100% online, including General Business, Criminal Justice, and Psychology. To learn more, visit westliberty.edu/aspire/online-degrees/
