
West Liberty, W. Va. – West Liberty University (WLU) is saddened by the death of Jack Adams, a 1963 graduate of the University and former Board of Governors and WLU Foundation Board member.
“Jack Adams was a true Hilltopper whose presence will be missed. He wanted the best for WLU students, both on the court and in the classroom,” said Dr. Tim Borchers, WLU President. “He leaves a legacy of support for future generations of Hilltoppers.”
Adams was inducted into the Wall of Honor in 2012, served on the WLU Foundation Board from 2014-2016, and he served on the WLU Board of Governors from 2016-2023.
“Jack Adams was a remarkable friend to West Liberty University and the WLU Foundation,” said Betsy Delk, Executive Director of the West Liberty University Foundation. “He gave generously of his time, expertise, and treasure. Jack was a proud alumnus who will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. ”
Adams’ generosity led to the permanent endowment of a fund to support athletics – the Jack Adams Hilltopper Athletic Club Endowment. He was also a frequent donor to the Gary E. West College of Business.
“Jack Adams was more than just an alumnus; he was a pillar of support, a loyal friend to West Liberty Athletics, and a true embodiment of Hilltopper pride,” said Brad Forshey, WLU Athletic Director. “His passion for our student-athletes and unwavering commitment to our programs left a lasting legacy that will be felt for generations. We are deeply saddened by his passing and forever grateful for the impact he made on our university community.”
After graduating from West Liberty in 1963 with a B.S. degree in marketing, he began his career in business with Retail Credit Co. (Equifax). In 1967, Adams then embarked on a 30-year career with Exxon Company, USA, in marketing, real estate, and engineering.
Retiring from Exxon in 1996, Adams became president of SJR’s Team Supreme, Inc., in Phoenixville/Valley Forge, Pa., which became a nationally recognized leader in Exxon convenience store marketing. After 13 years, he retired in 2009.
Adams was also a Vietnam War veteran, Adams proudly served for five years as sergeant and squad leader with the U.S. Army Reserves 630th Trans. Co., Washington, Pa. The company was one of five activated during the war and he spent 1968-1969, in Phu Bai, running convoys to Hue and the DMZ.
While at West Liberty, Adams was a founding brother of the Delta Omega chapter of Delta Sigma Pi International Business Fraternity.
