WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 20, 2019 — West Liberty University student Justine Seyfferth of Germany had a chance to meet U. S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., recently when she visited Washington, D.C. as part of her scholarship.
“It was interesting to meet the Senator. She was very approachable and easy to speak with. We talked about our time in West Virginia and touched on topics like recycling and community service. She also asked us about the differences between Germany and the United States,” said Seyfferth. The topic of gun control also came up.
Accompanying her on the visit to Capito was two other German scholarship students who also are studying at another college in West Virginia.
Seyfferth spent a week in D.C. during spring break and also visited the office of Sen. Joe Manchin, D. W.Va., and spoke with his staff in the office building. A graduate of a German language school, Seyfferth is trilingual, speaking French, English and German. She is enjoying her time in the U.S. and found the chance to tour D.C. educational and fun.
“We also toured the Capitol Building and had the chance to listen to some educational talks about the civil rights movement,” she said. The group also attended a NBA game, viewing the Washington Wizards vs. Dallas Mavericks.
Seyfferth is from Bavaria and her home is in the town of Coburg. She will return home in July and plans to find work in international business using her linguistic skills.
She is studying at WLU in a one-year exchange program called CBYX which stands for Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange. It is administered by Cultural Vistas and funded by the U.S. Department of State.
