WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Feb. 27, 2023 — West Liberty University’s Presidential Search Committee met with AGB Search today via Zoom as it continued progress on the 2023 Presidential Search for WLU’s 38th president.
AGB Consultants Jerome Gilbert and Richard Wueste are leading the presidential search efforts as paid consultants. The consultants completed “listening sessions” with WLU stakeholders (employees, faculty, students, alumni and community members) in January and then approved the official Presidential Profile and coordinated advertising efforts to promote the position. Today’s meeting focused on training.
Search Committee Chairman Thomas Cervone called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. with a roll call. In attendance were: Jack Adams, Michael Baker, Keith Bell, Sydney Burkle, Richard Carter, Katie Cooper, John Dolan, Ryan Glanville, Dan Joseph, Karen Kettler, Richard Lucas, David McKinley, Jason Metz, Stephanie Shaw and Tasha Taylor, along with Gilbert and Wueste. Unable to attend were: Arlene Brantley and Jamie Evick.
The AGB consultants reviewed several topics and completed required training consisting of:
- Review of what a search committee for president position does.
- Review of the ethics of search.
- How to review candidate credentials.
- How to access candidate documents.
- How to develop questions and next steps.
The deadline to apply for WLU’s presidential position is March 17, 2023.
According to the meeting minutes, semi-finalist interviews are proposed to take place April 3-4, 2023.
The meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.

Also serving as search committee members are: Katie Cooper, assistant vice president of Enrollment Management; John Dolan, alumnus and member of the WLU Foundation Board; Dr. Daniel “Dan” Joseph, alumnus and member of the WLU Foundation Board; Dr. Karen Kettler, dean of the College of Sciences and Tasha Taylor, executive assistant to the provost.
