WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 5, 2024— The public is invited to enjoy an Organ Invitational this Sunday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. at West Liberty University’s Interfaith Chapel with a reception following in the College Union Ballroom.
Organists from around the area will perform alongside WLU alumni, faculty, and students to celebrate the virtue of community during the week-long celebration of “Aspirations,” which marks the inauguration of President Tim Borchers.
Alumni performers include Wayne Earnest, class of 1972; Michael Koss, class of 2003, and David Scherrick, class of 2003.
Wheeling community member Bob Troeger will play the organ alongside Evan Robinson, an adjunct professor of music at WLU.
Current WLU students Morgan Charley and Henry Knudsen will also contribute to the concert.
“I’m looking forward to featuring the organ and having a bunch of people appreciating the music because it is not something that every campus has or is all that common these days,” said Dr. Matthew D. Harder, a Professor of Music and the Department Chair of Music and Theater. “I also hope to reinvigorate our organ program,” he added.
Eight pieces will be performed on WLU’s Moller pipe organ, including some original compositions, arrangements by famous German composer J. S. Bach, and duets featuring the trombone and trumpet.
