Leif Green Joins West Liberty University’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL: SCROOGE AND MARLEY

West Liberty University Hilltop Players Welcome Guest Artist with a Storied Career in Film, Theatre, and Philanthropy

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University Hilltop Players are proud to announce that Leif Green, a Hollywood veteran, has joined the creative team for their production of Israel Horovitz’s adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL: SCROOGE AND MARLEY.

Green, whose remarkable career bridges film, theatre, and humanitarian advocacy, brings his distinctive artistry and passion to the Hilltop stage this December. His costume designs for A CHRISTMAS CAROL promise to merge Dickensian silhouettes with theatrical imagination, crafting a visual world that captures both the grit and grace of 19th-century London.

A performer with deep Hollywood roots, Green appeared in commercials, television, theater, and films. His proudest achievement as an actor was starring with Cloris Leachman in the 1983 Emmy-award winning ABC Afterschool special, “The Woman Who Willed A Miracle.” He is most known for his role as one of the T-Birds in the film Grease 2. Green moved behind the scenes to pursue a celebrated career in animation production working on Disney’s “Hercules,” “Mulan,” “Tarzan,” and “Brother Bear 2.” His last project was “Super Pets” for Warner Brothers. His creative journey has taken him from the world of motion pictures to the theatre, where he has worked with numerous companies—including The Young Americans, an organization known for its dynamic, youth-centered musical performances and international tours.

Beyond his artistic career, Green has been recognized for his extraordinary philanthropic work during the height of the AIDS epidemic, when he became a tireless advocate and fundraiser for organizations providing care, education, and hope. His compassion and commitment to community continue to inform his work as a designer and mentor.

“Working with Leif Green on A Christmas Carol has been a true privilege,” said Michael Aulick, Professor of Theatre. “Leif is not only an exceptional designer whose creativity has elevated the production, but also a generous mentor who provides outstanding guidance to his student crew. His professionalism and positive attitude are truly infectious, inspiring everyone around him.”

For Green, returning to the Kelly stage is rich with nostalgia. His first musical production at age eight was the Hilltoppers’ production of The Sound Of Music in 1969. Two years later he was in their production of “Whinnie The Pooh” which was directed by Dr. Helen Kelly herself!

“This is my first opportunity collaborating on a production with Leif,” said Chris Rees, Assistant Professor of Theatre and Technical Director. “His expertise, positivity, and enthusiasm have already had a noticeable educational impact on our students. These are exactly the kinds of experiences that help our program grow and thrive. I look forward to continuing our collaboration and seeing his designs come to life—he has been a wonderful addition to our team.”

Come out and immerse yourself in the enchanted and haunting world of Dickens’ 19th-century London and enjoy Leif’s beautiful costumes as the Hilltop Players perform the Christmas classic A Christmas Carol, running December 4-5 and 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, December 14.
