WEST LIBERTY, W. Va., May 23, 2022 – West Liberty University will welcome golfers to its annual Lary Loew Hilltopper Golf Scramble on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Oglebay’s Arnold Palmer Course, a par 71 championship layout with six par-three holes, seven par-four holes and five par-five holes.
This four-person team, golf tournament raises funds to benefit WLU Athletics and its student-athletes.
The golf scramble honors West Liberty alumnus Lary Loew, his passion for golf and his love of his alma mater.
“We look forward to the annual golf scramble and this meaningful way of remembering Lary. He loved West Liberty and he enjoyed golf, so there is no better way to do so,” said Brenda Thomas, one of Lary’s sisters who is active in supporting the golf scramble.
Lary Loew founded the Wheeling-based company, The Cornerstone Group, a full-service employee benefits agency which acts as the Ace Sponsor of the scramble. His sisters, Brenda Thomas, Sharon Saseen and Carol Loew remain at the helm of the family business and are pleased to remember their brother in this way.
Registration and lunch take place upon arrival, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Besides 18 holes of golf, there will be the traditional on-course games and contests, complimentary drinks (3) and a special West Liberty University gift for all participants.
Additionally, participants are welcome to join a post-scramble dinner which will be held at the West Sports Bar in Wheeling.
The golf tournament fee is $500 per four-person team. However, there are several different sponsorship and team participation opportunities, all benefitting the WLU football program.
In 2011 Loew was inducted into the WLU Wall of Honor for his professional accomplishments. He died a year later from a serious illness at the age of 59. To read more about Lary Loew, please click here.
