WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 2, 2015 — West Liberty University choir and friends will send its best wishes for a happy holiday season as it presents its annual holiday concert in two free performances at 3 and 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 1300 Eoff St., Wheeling.

The Cathedral of St. Joseph offers an exceptional venue for concert.
The Cathedral of St. Joseph features a Romanesque Revival architecture and offers a beautiful venue for the concert.

Under the direction of Dr. Scott Glysson, the Holiday Card to Wheeling concert will include 120 voices and will feature the Arthur Boreman Elementary School Choir, Brooke High School Madrigal Singers, John Marshall High School Monarch Choir, Wheeling Middle School Girls Chorus, Wheeling Park High School Young Patriots and the West Liberty University Singers.

“This is our biggest concert of the year and we think it’s the perfect opportunity to share holiday wishes with the entire community. These talented choirs are coming together as a representation and celebration of the choral art in our community. We hope everyone will join us,” Glysson said.

Glysson is director of Choral Activities and assistant professor of music at West Liberty University.

Other choir directors involved in the concert include: Matthew Jennings (Arthur Boreman), Celesta Byard (Brooke), David Scherrick (John Marshall), Wendy Seidewitz (Wheeling Middle) and Joyce Jingle (Wheeling Park). Choirs represent schools in Brooke, Ohio, Marshall and Tyler counties.

“The concert is full of audience participation and will be a great way to enjoy traditional Christmas music and sing along,” said Glysson.

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Music Director Robert Troeger will be playing the organ for the concert. The beautiful Cathedral of St. Joseph, which is the seat of the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, will be decorated for Christmas which adds to the performance.

WLU’s music program offers students many opportunities to perform. The Singers are an elite group with membership gained by audit. It is the touring choir that represents the University at on and off-campus events.

Though there are no tickets and no fee for the concert a freewill offering will be accepted. Doors will open one hour before each show and seating is limited.

For more information on the concert or the music program in general, please call WLU Music Department at 304-336-8930.
