WEIRTON, W.Va., Feb. 9, 2015 – Approximately 15 WLU students and their instructor have partnered with MedExpress Urgent Care and Quick Fit Gym to help Weirton community members reach their fitness goals in 2015. Together, the three organizations have partnered to offer A Better ME – a fun, unique collaboration designed to teach Weirton community members the basics of weight loss, strength and endurance.

A Better ME is a $20 (plus the cost of gym membership) wellness program that provides fitness assessments, one-on-one personal training sessions, workouts-of-the-week, group challenges including a 5K and Pump and Run event and monthly prizes. WLU exercise physiology students will be on-site to provide pre- and post-fitness assessments and free personal training sessions to all participants.

“As exercise physiologists, we understand the importance of incorporating physical activity into one’s daily lifestyle,” said Brandon Bolduc, WLU Exercise Physiology Instructor. “Both my students and I are thrilled to help pass on this knowledge to those involved in the challenge, and at the same time, provide the students with a great learning opportunity by working with the community to apply skills they learned in the classroom.”

The 12-week A Better ME program will run from Mar. 1 – May 31. Those interested must register between Feb. 15 – 28 and can do so by visiting Quick Fit Gym, located at 3520 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton, or online at [enter eventbrite address].

“We’re excited for A Better ME participants to tap into the added resources the WLU students will bring to the program,” said Jennifer Anderson, Weirton MedExpress Center Manager. “Both MedExpress and Quick Fit are dedicated to the health and well-being of the Weirton community, and we’re confident the students’ expertise will help participants to become as healthy as possible in 2015.”

“Starting a personal health journey is almost always overwhelming without support,” said Denise Miller, Quick Fit Gym Owner. “Our goal is to help participants understand that progress is possible with change and consistency. With MedExpress, Quick Fit and WLU’s support, we’ll help participants take the first step toward healthy lifestyle change.”

MedExpress is a proud partner of schools and charitable organizations throughout the region. The Weirton Center plays an important role in the community’s health care, offering convenient features that help most patients get the care they need in under an hour. With an X-ray suite and on-site lab, the center can diagnose and treat most health care needs in one location.
