WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Oct. 22, 2014 — West Liberty University’s Department of Music will present the Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet at two different venues as part of its Concert Artist Series this October.busking

The WLU Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Matthew Inkster, will perform a concert at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at Wheeling Park High School J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center. During this concert, the Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet will join the WLU Wind Ensemble in a performance of David Maslanka’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble.

For several other selections on the program the WLU Wind Ensemble will be joined by talented musicians from the Wheeling Park High School Concert Band.

The Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet also will perform a chamber concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31 in Elbin Auditorium, College Hall.

Both of these concerts are free and open to the public.

“We are excited to feature the Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet both as concerto soloists and chamber musicians. Internationally acclaimed, the Quartet delivers performances of the highest artistic caliber. Please don’t miss these special events!” said Gerald Lee, WLU Concert Series coordinator.

The Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet (BCQ) is lauded for their “high-energy” and “impressive” performances and has been sharing visceral and compelling chamber music with audiences since 2009.

Twice nominated for “Best Classical Ensemble” by the Austin Critics’ Table, the quartet focuses on works by living composers to create engaging and memorable experiences for audiences.

BCQ has performed concerts all over the world, including engagements at the SXSW music festival, the Sibelius Academy for Music in Helsinki, Finland, the Contagious Sounds series in New York City, Marfa Public Radio, KQUE Hum Tum Radio in Houston, and the Fast Forward Festival for new music.

BCQ has worked closely with leading composers such as Jennifer Higdon, John Corigliano, Steven Snowden, Ian Dicke, Donald Grantham, Christopher Stark, Victor Marquez, Asha Srinivasan, David Biedenbender, and Robert Honstein in various chamber and large ensemble configurations. They have been featured as performers on several commercial recordings on the Naxos, Mark Masters, and Longhorn labels, including Over the Rainbow and Bach Again, Tex Sax Next Generation and Circus Maximus, all available on iTunes.

The Division of Music at West Liberty University offers undergraduate degrees in music education, music performance and music technology. Its ensembles include: University Chorus, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and the Hilltopper Marching Band.
