Campus Updates Include New Student Housing and Business Office Changes

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Aug. 12, 2016 — As move-in day approaches, West Liberty University students can expect to find some welcome improvements on the hilltop campus.

Standard summer improvements took place across campus such as paving and maintenance but big changes took place as well offering increased options for housing and a consolidation of business office functions into the Student Enrollment Center. Students move in the weekend of Aug. 19.

“The changes we’ve made to campus this summer were all undertaken with the idea of better serving our students. We want to provide the best student environment we can and do it in the most efficient manner,” said Dr. Stephen Greiner, president.

The new housing options include six modern cabins located near the Gary E. West Event Center. These two or three bedroom cabins are located just across the road from the main campus.

“These cabins are perfect for our students and offer a great addition to our housing options. We are pleased that we could arrange for our returning resident students to have such a great housing choice available as a fully furnished cabin in the woods,” said Greiner. Each cabin comes fully furnished with kitchen, living room, bedroom furniture, washer, dryer and a big screen TV. (To view images, click westliberty.edu/residence-life/cabins.)

The other housing option that is new is the addition of a house located just outside WLU’s main gate at 409 Van Meter Way. This house was acquired over the summer and includes four bedrooms. It will house four students this fall.

Besides the addition of new off-campus housing options, the business office changes are expected to improve the student experience when paying bills. The consolidation results in a true one-stop shop for students with the front line business office functions now moved into the first floor Enrollment Center in Shaw Hall.

“This means financial aid, registration and payment transactions can be done more conveniently in one centrally located office in Shaw Hall. The office hours of the Enrollment Center also are now longer to accommodate our students’ busy schedules,” Greiner added. Students also no longer will be charged an overage fee for carrying more than 18 hours of credit.

“I’m happy to see that many of the students concerns were addressed over the summer. When our students come back next week, they will return to a campus full of life during Topperfest,” said Student Government Association President Reid Boden, an education major who plans to be a secondary education history teacher after graduation. “Student Government is planning better attractions like rock wall climbing and a wet and wild day. Our students should expect to be better informed this year too as Student Government is working in many ways to be more responsive.”

West Liberty University will welcome students to campus with a variety of activities to make it a smooth transition from home to Hilltop during Topperfest. New students move-in on Friday, Aug. 19, and all other students return on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20 and 21. Classes begin at the Highlands Center campus on Saturday, Aug. 20 and on the main campus on Monday, Aug. 22.
