WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 31, 2025 – West Liberty University’s (WLU) Behavioral Health Clinic is removing financial and geographical barriers to high-quality psychological care for West Virginia residents through a variety of low cost and accessible services.
Specializing in non-emergency psychological care, the clinic serves children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families by offering in-person therapy sessions, teletherapy, psychological assessments, healthcare navigation services, and resources for employers.

The clinic is staffed by graduate students from WLU’s Clinical Psychology Master’s Program, who administer services under the supervision of licensed clinical faculty. Patients do not need health insurance, referrals, or co-pays to access the clinic’s services. Moreover, those with insurance are also accepted without any charge to their current healthcare plan.
Clinic director Dr. Michael Morreale explains how the University is filling a void in the state of West Virginia by removing some common barriers.
“Our clinic is uniquely filling a need for vital mental health services in a predominantly rural state,” says Morreale. “Not having health insurance, needing a referral, along with other accessibility barriers, far too often prevent people from receiving the care they need. As an educational institution, we can provide hassle-free in-person or teletherapy sessions for less than the average price of a copay and without the need for insurance,” he adds.
WLU’s Behavioral Health Clinic currently offers the following services:

Teletherapy
Teletherapy is a convenient, affordable, and accessible way for West Virginia residents to receive quality mental health services from the comfort and privacy of home. Teletherapy sessions are pre-evaluated for appropriateness with some assessments requiring in-person visits. Sessions are only conducted through a HIPAA-compliant Zoom account.
Individual, Couples and Family Therapy
Fulfilling a variety of needs and situations, individual, couples, and family therapy sessions through WLU’s Behavioral Health Clinic can help manage one’s own mental health conditions, improve relationships, navigate difficult life events, improve communication, and resolve conflicts.
Intake Assessments
A starting point for patients, these one-hour evaluations assess individual needs and determine the appropriate services. During these sessions, information is gathered about symptoms and history to provide a diagnosis or identify if additional testing is needed. While some mental health diagnoses can be made from this evaluation, others—such as Autism or ADHD—may require further testing for an accurate diagnosis.

Psychological Assessments
Psychological assessments (also known as psych evaluations) are tailored to meet various referral needs. Situations are assessed during intake to determine what type and level of testing are necessary. Psychological assessments range from $15 to $250, depending on the complexity and nature of the evaluation required to make an official diagnosis.
Healthcare Navigation Services
Healthcare Navigation Services at WLU’s Behavioral Health Clinic guide individuals in addressing mental health concerns and determining appropriate care levels for themselves or loved ones through personalized screenings.
Resources for Employers
WLU’s Behavioral Health Clinic can help find ways to offer low-cost employee healthcare to small businesses. The clinic can also provide trainings that cover a variety of topic areas in psychology to any groups or businesses that are interested.
The Bureau of Labor and Statistics projects around 13,000 new clinical psychology jobs openings annually over the next decade. WLU is addressing this growing demand by training students for the field.
West Liberty University’s Behavioral Health Clinic upholds core values of integrity, compassion, respect, and excellence. The clinic is committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where individuals can take charge of their mental health journey, guided by a dedicated and compassionate team.
The clinic is open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

More about Dr. Michael Morreale
Dr. Michael Morreale earned his Psy.D. from Nova Southeastern University and moved to West Virginia 11 years ago, dedicating over a decade to serving the community through work in community mental health. During this time, he gained valuable insight into gaps in services, particularly in meeting the needs of parents whose children have developmental and behavioral challenges. As an expert in the treatment of trauma-related disorders, he understands the layered impact that the opioid epidemic and the COVID-19 pandemic have had on the health of families in West Virginia.
