Dr. Cantlay’s Bio:
Dr. Cantlay is an Assistant Professor at West Liberty University where his research focuses primarily on the morphological and physiological differentiation of the intracellular pathogen, Francisella tularensis. His aim is to understand the molecular mechanisms that underpin morphological plasticity differentiation in F. tularensis and how these changes relate to pathogenicity and environmental persistence.
Dr. Cantlay earned his PhD in 2008 from the University of East Anglia where he investigated chromosome trafficking in the soil bacterium, Streptomyces coelicolor. He continued to investigate the cell biology of S. coelicolor as a postdoctoral fellow at Lund University in Sweden where he worked on projects that focused on determinants of cell polarity and growth. He then went on to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where, as a research associate, he studied cell division in Streptomyces venzuelae.
