After graduating from Ghanatta College of Fine Arts in Ghana, Mr. Adoquei traveled extensively around Africa and Europe to paint and study. After moving to the United States he studied at The Art Students League with Oldrich Teply.
In addition to the National Academy School, Mr. Adoquei has taught at the New York Academy of Art, the Educational Alliance, The Art Students League, and Lyme Academy of Art in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Mr. Adoquei was recently invited to serve on the faculty of the Portrait Society of America. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has won several awards, including the Gold Medal in the Knickerbocker Artists Annual Exhibition.
His triptych of Martin Luther King Jr., was part of a traveling exhibition honoring Dr. King, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution, and was on view in Washington during the summer of 2003. Mr. Adoquei’s work is in the collection of the Elliott Museum in Florida; the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL; the Long Island Museum, NY, and in private collections in the US and abroad. He participates in the U.S. State Department Art in Embassies program and was awarded a Medal of Honor for his art, from the city of Pomport in France.
