Linda Kay Peterson, 73, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.
She was born January 4, 1943, in Wheeling, WV, the daughter of the late William L. Peterson, Sr. and M. Eloise Peterson Plummer. She was a life member of Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wheeling, WV, where she was a past Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Linda obtained her BA Degree from West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV, and her Masters Degree in Speech and Language Arts at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, where she was in pursuit of her Doctorate Degree. She was a retired Language Arts Teacher in the Ohio County School System, and was beloved by all her students who she touched over the years.
While teaching, she coached the speech team and track and field. She also was a judge for the state of WV for writing competitions.
She loved to garden, deliver Meals on Wheels, and participate in the Susan Eismon Bible Study class at Vance Memorial Presbyterian. She was a past active member and leader of the Wheeling Junior League and proud past Board Member of the Florence Crittenton Home in Wheeling, WV.
She was a voracious learner and reader, and a 17 year Breast Cancer survivor and very proud of it.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Peterson.
Surviving are her loving husband of 12 years, Theodore L. Owens; a son, Todd (Kathleen) Thonen of Frisco, TX; two daughters, Holly (Drew) Golden of Frisco, TX, and Paige (Doug) Thonen Hahn of Mason, OH; a stepson, Randall J. Owens of Springfield, OH; a step daughter, Vickie (Todd) W. Bauer of Wheeling, WV; a brother, William L. (Karen) Peterson, Jr; 12 grandchildren, Rebekah (Wade) Carter, Jacob Thonen, Katie and Collin Golden, Jeremy, Scott, Paul Hahn, Jasmine Owens, Allison, Sydney, and twin grandsons, Brock and Brady Bauer; two great-grandchildren, Faith and Westley Carter; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Jacque.
