Georgia Velas Doerr, 83, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.
She was born November 17, 1932 in Wheeling, WV, daughter of the late James and Stella Volney Velas.
Mrs. Doerr was a school teacher having retired from the Ohio County Schools in 1989 and then retired from the Bridgeport High School, Bridgeport, Ohio in 2003.
Georgia was a past member of the Human Rights Commission; a past member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society; a past member of the Soroptimist Professional Women’s Club; past president of OCEA; past Girl Scout Leader; and she coached tennis at Wheeling Park High School. She was one of 64 women in the U.S. in 1984 to have lunch with President Ronald Reagan. She loved to teach and loved to travel, and public service with schools and human rights was very important to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin George Doerr in 1989.
Surviving are four daughters, Deborah (Gary) Marshall of Triadelphia, WV; Cindy (Steve) Leek of Wheeling, WV; Shari Doerr; and Darlene Doerr both of Wheeling, WV; six grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Monroe; Cassandra (Bruce) Henry; Joshua (Jennifer) Marshall; Jason (Nicole) Marshall; Janet (Shane) Levitt; and Willie Wentzel; eight great- grandchildren, Austin, Breanna, Destiny, Levi, Chase, Logan, Emily, Fiona; and several nieces and nephews
