Program Overview
The Psychology Department at West Liberty University is dedicated to preparing you for lifelong success through hands-on learning experiences and faculty support. Gain real-world skills with hands-on learning experiences through a psychology curriculum which emphasizes:
- Knowledge of people and animals and how they think, feel, and behave
- Applying psychological concepts to real-world problems
- Scientific and critical thinking to find and weigh quality evidence in problem-solving
- Ethical values and decision-making skills
- Enhancing communication, applying psychological concepts, and building technology skills
- Developing personal and professional development skills needed in today’s workforce.
We prioritize student success and career readiness through experiential learning, a broad foundational knowledge base, and close relationships with mentors.
Our curriculum aligns with the American Psychological Association’s Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major. WLU students average at the 70th percentile for their knowledge of psychology.

My favorite class was Abnormal Psychology because I love to learn about how the brain can be helped in times of distress and mental illness. I was able to conduct research on campus and work one on one with a psychology professor while also being a student athlete."

Approximately half our graduates obtain graduate degrees, while others find work in areas such as mental health, substance abuse, education, business, advocacy, and research.
