WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – August 28, 2025 — West Liberty University officially welcomed students back to campus this week as the 2025–2026 academic year began on Monday, August 25. The Hilltop was full of energy and excitement as students moved into residence halls over the weekend and participated in a variety of welcome events designed to build community and kick off the semester.
The university’s annual TopperFest celebration returned with a full schedule of activities, including live entertainment, games, a resource fair, and social gatherings. These events helped new and returning students connect and get acclimated to campus life.
This fall, West Liberty is proud to welcome over 500 new students, including an increase in transfer students. Strengthened by expanded online offerings and new regional partnerships, including collaborative enrollment pathways with area institutions, the university continues to prioritize access and opportunities for learners across the region.
Strong retention rates also reflect the university’s commitment to student success, with faculty and staff focused on creating a supportive and engaging academic environment. The theme for the year—experiential learning blended with community impact—underscores WLU’s dedication to preparing students for meaningful careers and civic engagement.
“There’s a real sense of momentum on campus this year,” said Katie Cooper, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. “From the energy of move-in weekend to the excitement around our new programs and the growing number of transfer students choosing West Liberty, it’s clear that students are ready to engage, grow, and make an impact. Our team is deeply committed to supporting every student’s transition and success, and we’re proud to see so many choosing to begin or continue their journey here.”
West Liberty University looks forward to a successful and inspiring year ahead as it continues to grow and evolve in service to its students and the broader community.
