Six Selected for Honors Music Recital

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 26, 2017 — West Liberty University’s Division of Music will hold its annual Honors Recital, at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 6, in Elbin Auditorium, College Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

“I congratulate the winners of our annual Honors Recital competition. Each of these students represents the finest musical talents in our Division of Music. Student performers are selected for the Honors Recital through a competitive audition with outside judges unfamiliar with their work,” said Dr. Gerald Lee, professor of piano.

Six WLU students will perform a variety of music in the recital including, Brent Kimball, tenor; Madeleine LaFollette, soprano; Eli Lambie, alto saxophone; Haley Sessums, piano; Lindsay Six, soprano and Abigail Wilson, piano.

Kimball is a senior pursuing both the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. He is from Follansbee, W.Va. and the son of Mitchell and Debbie Kimball, and Lori Kimball. Brent studies voice with Dr. Linda Cowan Youssef. Upon graduation, he plans to continue his studies in opera performance at the master’s level.

LaFollette is a freshman pursuing two degrees: the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. She is from Fairmont, W.Va. and the daughter of Courtney and Jean Paul LaFollette. Madeleine studies voice with Dr. Linda Cowan Youssef. Upon graduation, she plans to teach private lessons and possibly attend graduate school.

Lambie is a senior pursuing three degrees: the Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance, the Bachelor of Music in Music Technology, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. He is from Moundsville, W.Va. and the son of Jane and Richard Lambie. Eli studies saxophone with Professor Marino Galluzzo. Upon graduation, he plans to teach elementary music in the public schools, perform, engage in studio work, and enjoy all that life has to offer.

Sessums is a sophomore pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. She is from Moundsville, W.Va. and is the daughter of Tammy and Dave Sessums. Haley studies piano with Dr. Gerald Lee. Upon graduation, she plans to teach music in the public schools.

Six is a sophomore pursuing two degrees: the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. She is from Follansbee, W.Va. and the daughter of Dawn McCulley. Lindsay studies voice with Dr. Linda Cowan Youssef. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a graduate degree in either vocal performance or conducting.

Wilson is a freshman pursuing the Bachelor of Music degree in both Vocal Performance and Piano Performance. She is from Parkersburg, W.Va. and the daughter of Melissa and Darren Wilson. Abigail studies piano with Dr. Gerald Lee. Upon graduation, she plans to travel the world, performing and exploring, before settling down with a family and her private studio where she will teach piano and voice lessons.

WLU’s Department of Music and Theater is housed within the College of Arts and Communication. It offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree, the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree and the Bachelor of Music Technology degree programs.
