The West Liberty University Economics Club and Center for Economics Philosophy will host two noted scholars at upcoming luncheon events in Wheeling.

At noon on Oct. 24, William Voegeli, senior editor of the Claremont Review of Books, will present “All Politics is Fiscal.” At noon on Nov. 3, Sally Pipes, president and chief executive officer of the Pacific Research Institute, will discuss “The Truth About ObamaCare.”

Both talks will be held at River City Ale Works, 1400 Main St. The cost of $10 includes lunch.

Voegeli is the author of “Never Enough: America’s Limitless Welfare,” a senior editor of the Claremont Review of Books and a visiting scholar at Claremont McKenna College’s Henry Salvatori Center.  His work has appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, City Journal, Commentary, First Things, In Character, the Los Angeles Times, National Review and the New Criterion.  He also writes for the Ashbrook Center blog, No Left Turns.  After receiving a doctorate in political science from Loyola University in Chicago he was a program officer for the John M. Olin Foundation from 1988 to 2003.

Pipes is president and chief executive officer of the Pacific Research Institute, a San Francisco-based think tank founded in 1979.  In November 2010, she was named the Taube Fellow in Health Care Studies. Prior to becoming president of PRI in 1991, she was assistant director of the Fraser Institute, based in Vancouver, Canada.  She has addressed national and international audiences on health care issues and has been interviewed on several programs on the major news networks. Her book, The Truth About ObamaCare,” was published by Regnery in 2010.

Anyone interested in attending the events or in need of more information should contact Jeff Knierim, WLU’s vice president for community engagement, at (304) 336-8301 or by email at jknierim@westliberty.edu.
