WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., June 15, 2016 — West Liberty University scored as the best school in West Virginia for scholarships, according to GoodCall, a free online consumer research tool, which released its first-ever Best Schools for Scholarships Report recently.

West Liberty is featured on the report at the number 99 spot among 4,000 public colleges and universities evaluated for the survey. The report takes a look at the amount of scholarship and fellowship dollars available to students.

“We are pleased to come in first for the state of West Virginia in this new ranking and we will continue to work hard to keep the cost of a college education affordable for all our students. West Liberty University has long been a leader in college accessibility and we are grateful to the many scholarship donors, alumni and friends who assist us in our work,” said Vice President of Student Services Scott Cook, who oversees enrollment.

WLU provided $4,334 scholarship dollars per student, according to the data.

“With over 4,000 public U.S. colleges and universities evaluated, West Liberty University is positioned highly for having a large amount of scholarship/fellowship dollars per enrolled student,” said GoodCall Media Relations spokesperson Michelle Billick.

GoodCall analysts looked at scholarship and fellowship dollars per enrolled students at more than 4,000 colleges and universities across the country to develop the full report showing the top 500 schools and rankings. (See goodcall.com/data-center/best-schools-for-scholarships.)

Data for the report was pulled from the National Center for Education Statistics Integrated Postsecondary Education System (IPEDS) data comparison tool (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds). To be included in this report, an institution must be a public, degree-granting higher education institution.

To calculate the rankings, GoodCall looked at the gross amount of scholarships and fellowships applied to tuition at each institution during the 2014 school year along with the 12-month enrollment for the 2014 school year at each institution. The final ranking is based off the average amount of scholarship/fellowship dollars per enrolled student at each university.
