West Liberty, W.Va. – September 22, 2025 — West Liberty University’s chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society has been named a Notable Chapter for the 2024–25 academic year. Only eight chapters nationwide earned this distinction, underscoring WLU’s strong commitment to academic excellence and student leadership.
The designation recognizes chapters that excel in key areas, including inducting new members locally, sending student and faculty representatives to the national convention, nominating students for national Alpha Chi scholarships and fellowships, and hosting on-campus programs that promote scholarship. Chapters must also demonstrate strong organization through annual reporting and ongoing engagement in Alpha Chi initiatives.
WLU’s chapter is led by Dr. Linda Cowan, Alpha Chi Chapter Advisor, and Assistant Advisors Dr. Melinda Kreisberg, Dr. Angela Rehbein, and Prof. Alex Franke. Their leadership has been integral to the chapter’s success.
“West Liberty has enjoyed a long and productive history of engagement with Alpha Chi, with our students winning many scholarships for research papers, posters, and presentations over my 15 years of participation as faculty advisor,” said Cowan.
At the virtual March 2025 convention, WLU had four students deliver a collaborative research team presentation, and one national scholarship winner, Tiffany Sites, for her research paper, “A Theoretical Analysis of John Powell’s ‘Test Drive.’”
Cowan also serves as President of the National Council of Alpha Chi, its governing board. In March, Sites was elected as the student representative of Region V (MI, WV, OH, IN, KY, IL) to the National Council.
Founded in 1922, Alpha Chi is a national college honor society that admits students from all academic disciplines. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors, and graduate students. With over 300 chapters nationwide, Alpha Chi recognizes and promotes academic excellence, leadership, and service.
