Teaching beyond the walls: Connecting Classrooms via Virtual Exchange

Presentation by Dr. Megan Gibbons from Glenville State College on WLU campus.
Dr. Megan Gibbons is Coordinator of International Education for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. In this capacity, she oversees the HEPC J-1 Consortium, the GlobalWV education abroad programs, and the statewide virtual exchange Collaborative Online International Learning program. Dr. Gibbons is also a tenured Associate Professor of Spanish at Glenville State College. In addition to teaching language, literature and culture, she serves as Director of International Programs at Glenville State, focusing especially on virtual exchange and faculty-led study abroad. Dr. Gibbons received her Ph.D in Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University. Her international living and work experience includes time spent in Italy and Panama, as well as completing a master’s degree in Madrid and a Fulbright placement in Oviedo, Spain where she conducted research on COIL.

Dr. Vishakha Maskey and Dr. Aron Massey attended FACDIS workshop in Morgantown, WV.
Dr. Maskey attended session titled: Collaborative Teaching/ learning at International Studies Classroom. Thi
s session provided both philosophical foundations and practical advice about how to create stimulating and effective learning environments through the use of collaborative learning techniques. Participants learned pedagogical techniques and practice their use in small “base” groups.

Dr. Brian Fitzpatrick presents at International Conference

Dr. Fitzpatrick is an Internationalization Committee member and a Professor of Political Science at the College of Liberal Arts. He will be presenting a paper titled Overcoming Income and Interest Groups: Saliency and Representative Responsiveness at Northeastern Political Science Association Conference. The conference takes place in Montreal, Canada between Nov. 8th-Nov. 10th, 2018.
