ALUMNI “WALL OF HONOR” The West Liberty University Alumni Board of Directors instituted a project in 1990 to demonstrate to current students, visitors, and friends that the college has some very successful graduates. This project, known as the “Alumni Wall of Honor,” is a dramatic way to honor some of the college’s most distinguished alumni and display pride in the accomplishments of its graduates. The concept was suggested by then Associate Professor of Physics Robert W. Schramm, who is a 1958 graduate of the college and a 2002 Alumni Wall of Honor inductee. The Alumni Wall of Honor is housed in the south end of the Union known as the Alumni Lounge.

Jennifer Schwertfeger
Inducted 2024A Wheeling, WV native, Jennifer has dedicated her career to science education and expanding STEAM opportunities in West Virginia. After earning degrees in biology (West Liberty University) and secondary science education (West Virginia University), she transitioned to teaching at 40. Schwertfeger spent 12 years at Cameron High School, known for her commitment to student success and innovative methods. In 2020, she was named West Virginia Teacher of the Year, also receiving the NEA Foundation’s Excellence in Education Award. She later became WVDE’s Science Coordinator and now serves as Program Manager for WVU’s STEAM Technical Assistance Center, impacting over 40,000 students statewide.
