ALUMNI “WALL OF HONOR” The West Liberty University Alumni Board of Directors instituted a project in 1990 to demonstrate to current students, visitors, and friends that the college has some very successful graduates. This project, known as the “Alumni Wall of Honor,” is a dramatic way to honor some of the college’s most distinguished alumni and display pride in the accomplishments of its graduates. The concept was suggested by then Associate Professor of Physics Robert W. Schramm, who is a 1958 graduate of the college and a 2002 Alumni Wall of Honor inductee. The Alumni Wall of Honor is housed in the south end of the Union known as the Alumni Lounge.
Daniel I Joseph
Inducted 2011Dan Joseph is a 1975 graduate of West Liberty State College. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from West Virginia University and his Master of Science in Orthodontics from Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Joseph established his orthodontic practice in Wheeling in 1980. He has served as president of the Wheeling District Dental Society and the West Virginia Orthodontic Association and as president and treasurer of the West Virginia Dental Association. He also spent many years as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists.
After serving for many years on the board of directors of the Southern Association of Orthodontists, Dr. Joseph was presented with that organization’s highest awards, the S.A.O. Citizenship Award and the Oren A. Oliver Distinguished Service Award. He was awarded Diplomate Status in two prestigious dental organizations, the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Joseph chaired the orthodontic examining committee for the West Virginia Board of Dental Examiners. He is also the co-founder of the E.J. Joseph Fund for Faculty Salaries at the West Virginia University Department of Orthodontics.
Dr. Joseph has served on the West Liberty University Board of Governors, the Science Advisory Board and the Board of the West Liberty Regional Science and Engineering Fair. He also helped to secure funding for the dental hygiene clinic.
Dr. Joseph and his wife Debbie (‘75) have four children, two of whom are West Liberty graduates. The Josephs founded the annual Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta in 2006.
