William Schroeder – 1942

William H. Schroeder, 98, of Shadyside, Ohio died Monday, March 6, 2017 in the Shadyside Care Center.

He was born November 30, 1918 in Key, Ohio a son of the late Wallace and Inez Brannen Schroeder.

Bill was retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation’s Benwood plant and was a former high school science teacher for St. Clairsville and Bellaire. He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church in Shadyside, Shadyside Lodge 724 F & AM and the Order of Eastern Stat 489 Captina Chapter. He was a graduate of Shadyside High school, Class of 1936 and West Liberty State College, Class of 1942.

In his younger years, Bill enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and geneaology. He also scouted high school football teams for Shadyside High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Kathryn “Kay” Trimble Schroeder on September 19, 2001, an infant son, Ronald Lee Schroeder, his son-in-law, Ed Bryan and three brothers, Wallace Schroeder, Sgt. Robert E. Schroeder in Italy during World War II and Gordon “Lefty” Schroeder.

Surviving are his daughter, Carol L. Bryan of Powhatan Point, Ohio, one granddaughter, Sharon (Dana) Brown of Clarington, Ohio and one grandson, James (Karen) Bryan of Delaware, Ohio and sister-in-law, Jeanne Schroeder Rawson of Jacobsburg, Ohio. Also great-grandchildren, Jenna and Kylie Brown, Kelsi, Preston and Emily Bryan and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, Ohio on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am with Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Interment in the Powhatan cemetery in Powhatan Point, Ohio.
