Martin Cliser – 1965

February 21, 2017 By WLU Alumni Staff

Martin Keith Cliser, 73, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born October 20, 1943 in Aliquippa, PA, son of the late Robert M. and Alice M. (Dawson) Cliser.

Devoted husband and father, Martin is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet I. (Becker) Cliser; three daughters, Leigh Anne Cliser and June Ellen Cliser of Wheeling, and Amy Jo Cliser of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Sara Ellen Monar of Roanoke, VA; aunt and uncle, Wanda and Bernard McNulty of Wheeling; two grandchildren, Hayley June and Christian James Ryder of Wheeling, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Martin was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lee Cliser and Edward Paul Cliser.
A graduate of Union High School and West Liberty State College, he received a Masterás Degree in Vocational Education from Ohio State University. For over 35 years he was employed by the Ohio County Board of Education as Business Instructor and Night School Supervisor. He began his teaching career at McKinley Vocational School and then moved to Wheeling Park High School in 1976.

Martin personally took his teaching responsibilities beyond the classroom by finding many of his students employment in the local job market. Because of this special interest he showed in the youth of our area, they never forgot him and remained friends through the years. He had such an outgoing personality and loved meeting new people. Marty was a friend to all.

In his younger years Martin became a 32nd Degree Mason and also served as Past Master of the West Liberty Lodge.
