Charles Burley Davis, Jr., 81, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
Charles was born on May 4, 1934 in Weirton, WV son of the late Burley Charles Davis, Sr and Georgia Thelma Adams Davis.
He was raised on a dairy farm with his great-grandfather, grandfather and family. He graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1952, and graduated from West Liberty University in 1957. He also graduated from Antioch College which he attended on a government program with an emphasis on physics. He took classes at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. His graduate classes were completed at West Virginia University and Pitt University. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #22 in New Cumberland, a member and former officer with the Scottish Rite and Osiris Shrine and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Professor Davis was retired after serving 35 years as a Physics teacher at West Liberty University, was a Christian, and a member of the West Liberty Christian Church in West Liberty, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was was preceded in death by a brother; Bruce Davis, sister; Barbara Roach and his son Charles Burley Davis, III.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; Madona, son; Jeffrey Clyde Davis (Mariann), daughter; Mary Jo Davis Headley (Douglas), daughter-in-law; Beth Davis, 8 grand-children; Suzanne Marie Clutter (Chad), Carter and Brice Headley, Sarah Griffith (Todd), Stacey Davis, Joseph Davis (Ashley), Jeffrey Edward Davis, Jacob Davis, 5 great-grandchildren; Jayden Clutter, Jackson Loyal Clutter, Jude Andrew Griffith, Anna Marie Griffith, Davis Wayne Griffith, and a sister; Beverly King (Dan).
Interment will be at Prall cemetery in West Liberty, WV.
