Nursing Program Prerequisites: West Liberty University has a list of Nursing Program Prerequisites for Entry-Level / Pre-Licensure Entrance.
- Persons desiring to study nursing at West Liberty University must be accepted for admission to the college, declaring Nursing as their major.
- Admission to the nursing major is through either of two methods: Direct Admission or Application made during the second semester of the sophomore year.
- High school students admitted to WLU who meet one of the following academic tiers are guaranteed a spot in the Nursing Program in their junior year, provided they maintain program standards.
Direct Admission Qualifications
High school seniors must meet one of the following three academic combinations to qualify for Direct Admission:

Direct Admission (High School Seniors)
- If you were not a Direct Admit, you may apply to the program during the second semester of your sophomore year.
Eligibility Requirements
- Test Scores: ACT composite of 20 OR SAT (Critical + Math) of 1030.
- Credit Hours: Minimum of 42 credit hours completed with a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
- Prerequisite Grades: A grade of “C” or higher in the following science courses:
- BIO 124/125
- CHEM 100/101 or CHEM 110/111
- BIO 212
Standard Application (Sophomore Year)
- Regardless of your admission pathway (Direct or Standard), all students must meet these final requirements at the end of their sophomore year to receive Full Admission:
Academic Standards
- GPA: 3.0 overall in all General Studies and Nursing Support/Prerequisite courses.
- Core Coursework: A grade of “C” or higher in the following:
- Sciences: BIO 214 and BIO 216.
- Nursing Prerequisites: NUR 202 and NUR 203.
Health & Safety Clearance
- Background Check: Must return “unremarkable” findings.
- Drug Screen: Must return “clean” results from the university’s specified vendor.
