APPLY TO B.S. DEGREE PROGRAM IN SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY:

To be considered for admission, the applicant must:

  1. Submit a completed Speech Pathology & Audiology Program application form by January 21st, no exceptions.
  2. Demonstrate scholastic competence as demonstrated by:
    1. A minimum overall G.P.A of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
    2. “C” or higher letter grade in all introductory SPA courses (150, 151, 152, 156)
    3. Completion of general studies requirements
  3. Demonstrate professional attitudes, writing, and communication skills as evidenced by:
    1. Letter of intent
    2. Two letters of recommendation: One professional/academic reference and one personal reference
  4. Background check with “unremarkable” findings and a drug screen with “clean” results
  5. All requirements will have a formal review completed by Speech Pathology & Audiology Admissions Committee

SPEECH PATHOLOGY & AUDIOLOGY MINOR REQUIREMENTS

SPA Minor Course Curriculum

Per the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) 2020 Standard IV-B– Students must demonstrate knowledge of basic human communication and swallowing processes, including the appropriate biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural bases. The applicant must have demonstrated the ability to integrate information pertaining to normal and abnormal human development across the life span. Required in field courses to minor in SPA include:

Required Courses:

  1. SPA 150:  Phonetics/Phonology (3 hours)
  2. SPA 151:  Survey of Communication Disorders (3 hours)
  3. SPA 152:  Introduction to Acoustics (3 hours)
  4. SPA 156:  Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism (4 hours)
  5. SPA 250:  Language Science (3 hours)
  6. SPA 251: Introduction to Clinical Practice Audiology (3 hours)

 

 Choose one SPA preferred elective course from the following: 

  1. SPA 255:  Speech Science
  2. SPA 316:  Language Disorders: Children and Adolescents. (3 hours)
  3. SPA 310:  Communication Problems of the Aged (3 hours)
  4. SPA 400:  SPA Student Observation in Communication Disorders (3 hours)
  5. SPA 430:  Assessment & Management of Communication Disorders (3 hours)

*Total:  22 hours

*Note:  If student plans to further their education in a graduate program for speech-language pathology, audiology, and/or any other field of communication sciences and disorders, they must complete the following required general studies courses.

General Studies Curriculum
Per the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) 2020 Standard IV-A, the following general education courses are required for a minor in SPA: 

  1. Physical Science (preferably chemistry) 
  2. Statistics
  3. Biology Science
  4. Social/Behavioral Science
