A DH Alumni Brunch will be offered on Saturday morning, October 19th after the WLU Homecoming Parade. Come and catch up with classmates and old friends!
WLU Dental Hygiene Program recently sponsored a Continuing Professional Education Course on April 12, 2013 featuring Dr. Brian Novy, DDS, titled “Be Very Afraid: An Introduction to Modern Cariology. ”
| Dr. Brian B. Novy, DDS spoke on modern cariology concepts. Dr. Novy is an assistant professor of restorative dentistry at Loma Linda University where he teaches a variety of courses including caries management, evidence-based dentistry, dental materials, and operative dentistry. He maintains a private practice in Valencia, California and acts as clinical director for two non-profit dental clinics in southern California. His research interests focus on the predictive quality of saliva in relation to microbial growth patterns. He is actively involved in organized dentistry, serving on the ADA Council of Scientific Affairs as well as the western CAMBRA Coalition. | ||

The Sarah Whittaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene presented the Fall 2012 Dental Hygiene Professional Education Course. “The Changing Face of Dental Hygiene“ with Lillian Caperila, R.D.H., M. Ed. on October 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Wheeling Park White Palace.
This program highlighted the potential skills necessary to adapt to a changing model for the next decade. A hands-on component furnished attendees with time to practice, experiment and ask questions regarding hand instrument preferences.Lil Caperila served as a select panelist during a leadership conference held by the American Dental Hygienist’s Association in February of this year. The goal of the conference was successful in guiding licensed dental hygienists in preparing themselves for alternative career paths that will provide both career portability and job satisfaction for the future. This program will highlight skills that are core in the evolving role as an oral health practitioner and key leader in community healthcare.Objectives: The participants will be able to:

| Speaker: WLU Dental Hygiene Speaker Lillian Caperila, R.D.H., M. Ed., is a licensed dental hygienist from Pennsylvania. Her professional career has included the roles of an expanded function dental assistant, clinical dental hygienist, dental hygiene educator, professional speaker and manager of continuing education and university sales. Lil is a 1980 graduate of Montgomery County Community College with her A.S. in applied science and certificate in dental hygiene. In 1989, she completed her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene education at Thomas Jefferson University. In 2004, Lil completed her Masters degree in education, instructional design, and training from Pennsylvania State University. During Lil’s tenure as a faculty professor at Harcum College Dental Hygiene Program, she served as the President of Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists’ Association before coming aboard with Premier Dental as Manager of Professional Education twelve years ago. Her highest accomplishments have been the delivery of well over 400 seminars nationally and internationally. Of her most recent achievements, Lil was honored as a new inductee to the Alumni Hall of Fame at Montgomery County Community College and was a 2010 recipient of the American Dental Hygiene Association Irene Newman Award in Professional Leadership and Achievement.

Carol Jahn, RDH, BS, MS, presented a program on Periodontics at the recent Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene Continuing Education Event on April 13th, 2012. Participants earned 7 hours of Continuing Education Units.
| ……………… | Carol Jahn, RDH, BS, MS has a BS in dental hygiene from the University of Iowa and an MS in Continuing Education from the University of St. Francis. She has been a dental hygienist since 1982, and practiced clinically for 14 years in general and periodontal practices. Currently, she is Senior Professional Relations Manager for Water Pik, Inc. where she designs and develops educational materials and programs for dental professionals. She has presented over 200 courses in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia, has published more then 75 papers, and contributed to 7 textbooks including the 10th and 11th editions of Clinical Periodontology. |
